Maestro’t Baboy
Barangay San Juan used to be called “Baboy”, that was until Maestro Vito Lagazo was so irritated that he wanted the name changed. Maestro Vito was a teacher assigned in the sitio then called “Baboy”. When he came home to town after classes, the people he passed by said “Urisay, daytoy tay maestro’t baboyen”, then laughed. The District Councillor at that time, Apo Sabas Dancel, who also wanted the change, was advised that a legislated change of name is not an assurance that such change would stick. But it did. It seems that the barrio was really called San Juan but the people, for whatever reason, called it “Baboy”.
Peace and Order
One day, the then Congressman Rudy Farinas visited the fishing village of Tulnagan. He was met by an elder. Apo Farinas asked the man “Ket kumusta met ti peace and order ditoy?” For which the man replied “No piss apo adu, kasinapodios. Ngem no agorder kayo ket sapaenyo ta maipa-Laoag da ngamin a masapa tapno dida malaes.” The congressman and his party laughed hysterically.
